Mystic Seaport is a fascinating place to visit because its museum houses outstanding maritime history exhibits. We are taken back to the day of the great sailing ships during the 18th and 19th centuries. This is the time in which lighthouses gained respect for their service to mariners venturing upon the sea. Although this is a replica built in the mid 1960s, it is a strong reminder of our maritime heritage. Every American whose ancestors arrived from abroad had to travel by water. I can only imagine how each one felt when s/he saw a lighthouse and safe port from which to gain footing on solid land at last.
