Description
This lighthouse is amazing--it was built in 1791, three years after George Washington entered office as our first President. Few, if any, lights of that age are still standing in America. The dangerous wave-swept headland it rests on, Portland Head, and its more than two-century-old lighthouse make this one of the most photographed sites on the East Coast.

Hi Kevin, My wife Cheryl wrote the Portland Head information, she's written several lighthouse books including American Lighthouses by Globe Pequot Press, knows more about them than I do, thanks for the mention it delighted her., She has been to all the lights with me and talked to the old keepers before the Coast Guard took over. She founded the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society which helped move the Cape Hatteras Light to Safety.
